Teeth Whitening.

Professional whitening, with time to understand your options and decide what feels right for you.

A clear custom dental tray being placed over the teeth

We offer Enlighten Evolution professional teeth whitening. Your dentist will first check whether whitening is suitable for you, discuss your current tooth shade and explain what you can expect—so you can decide with clear information and no pressure.

    What the programme involves

    1. 01

      Assessment & custom trays

Your dentist checks suitability, records your current shade and arranges trays made to fit your teeth.

    2. 02

      14 days at home

You use professional whitening gel in your custom trays for 14 days, following the instructions provided by your dentist.

    3. 03

      Finishing appointment

The programme ends with a 60-minute appointment at the practice. From first assessment to finish, it typically takes around three weeks.

    What to know first

    • Whitening is not suitable for everyone; your dentist will assess your teeth and discuss your needs, including any sensitivity.
    • Some people experience temporary tooth sensitivity during or after whitening. Tell us if this happens so we can advise you.
    • Crowns, fillings and veneers do not whiten. Your dentist can explain how this may affect the overall appearance of your smile.
    • Results vary from person to person, and the likely outcome will be discussed at your assessment.
    • Avoid acidic DIY whitening methods, such as rubbing lemon juice on your teeth, which can damage enamel. Ask your dentist before using products advertised online or on social media.

    Looking after your smile

Daily brushing and flossing, routine dental check-ups and limiting staining food and drinks can help you care for your teeth after treatment.

    Top-up whitening

Top-up gel is available for patients who already have their custom whitening trays. Ask the team for advice about whether a top-up is appropriate for you.

    Clinically reviewed

We use Enlighten Evolution. After an examination and shade check, custom trays are made for home whitening, typically over 14 days, followed by a finishing appointment at the practice. We’ll explain your individual instructions before you begin.

Not necessarily. We assess the health of your teeth and gums, the cause of discolouration and any existing restorations. Your dentist will explain what may be achievable and whether another approach would be more appropriate.

Whitening changes the shade of natural teeth, not crowns, veneers, fillings or dentures. We’ll discuss any visible restorations before treatment so you understand how the shades may differ afterwards.

Temporary sensitivity or gum irritation can occur. Let us know if your teeth are already sensitive, and contact us if you have discomfort during treatment so we can advise you before you continue.

Good daily cleaning and reducing staining habits can help. Your dentist can advise on top-up treatment where appropriate; if your existing trays are still suitable, we may be able to supply additional professional whitening gel.

Results typically last from several months to a few years. It depends on your diet, whether you smoke, and how well you look after your teeth. Occasional top-up treatments help keep them bright.

Professional whitening, used as directed, is not expected to harm healthy enamel. The gels are regulated, and your dentist checks your teeth are healthy before you start.

In the UK, whitening must be provided by a dentist, or by a registered dental hygienist or therapist on a dentist's prescription. Products sold over the counter are limited in strength, and treatment from unregulated providers can burn gums or damage teeth.

It varies from person to person. Most people see a noticeable improvement of several shades. Your dentist will record your starting shade so you can compare.

Cut back on strongly coloured foods and drinks such as coffee, tea, red wine, curry and berries during treatment and for a couple of days after. Stopping smoking will also help your results last. Follow your dentist's individual advice for your whitening treatment.

It's generally recommended to wait until after pregnancy and breastfeeding, as a precaution.

Whitening isn't usually offered to anyone under 18 unless it's for treating or preventing disease.

It works best on yellowish surface and age-related staining. Grey staining, or discolouration from some medications or injury, may respond less well. Your dentist can advise on alternatives, such as veneers, where appropriate.
